Using Data and Technology to Innovate Healthcare and Empower Patients and Communities

About Dr. Anjum Khurshid, M.D., Ph.D.

I’m an Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Institute, where I serve as Founding Director of the Center for Artificial Intelligence and Biomedical Informatics and Chief Data Scientist for the FDA’s national Sentinel Operations Center — one of the largest distributed clinical data enterprises in the federal government, covering 300 million patients. My work fundamentally involves building the infrastructure that lets health data do what it should: improve care, reduce disparities, and enable research that changes policy. Over 20+ years I have founded national research networks, led major federal health IT demonstrations, and pioneered AI, FHIR-based data integration, and digital health apps in service of population and public health.
